Loving the skin you are in doesn’t need to be a difficult task. No matter who you are or what you look like, you can work what you’ve got a lot easier than you might think. So here are our tips that can change up the health of your skin, with minimal effort.

Cleanse twice

In order to have clear skin, simply making sure pores are truly clear can help. Makes sense, right?! So, start off by using an oil-based cleanser to remove make-up, and then clean with soap. Don’t mix up the order as the opposite will result in clogged pores.

Use toner

Toner is a part of our skin routine that most of us miss. It firms skin and keeps it smooth. For dryer skin, try an aloe vera based toner. Or, for oilier skin, go for witch hazel or sea-breeze. You can apply it each day, just before moisturising.

Moisturize

An obvious one for those with dry skin, but even for those with oily or combination skin, moisturizer can improve the quality of your skin. Keeping moisture within can mean the difference between cracked or wrinkled skin, so starting a moisturizing routine early will help maintain your skin’s overall health.

Limit caffeine

It can be easy to get hooked on caffeine when we live in a busy world and we have a lot to do. Eating well and drinking more water instead will help. And why not try drinking decaf after 3pm to limit your cravings and get a good nights sleep?

Reduce sugar intake

Eating more sugar than you need encourages inflammation in your skin, leading to acne or rosacea. Don’t go overboard in changing your habits, as this will likely end in a huge sugar binge… just try instead, to eat a little more fruit for ‘good sugars’, instead and enjoy the results!

Drink water

As well as giving you extra energy (the brain doesn’t work as well when dehydrated), and making you feel fresh as all toxins are flushed out, water also helps purify the skin. Try drinking more than normal (8 glasses a day, at first) and think of thirst as the enemy!

Healthy food is not just for eating! You can try mixing cucumber with milk to deeply soothe and moisturize dry skin, manuka honey if you’re wanting a general glow, and brown sugar and coconut oil to clear out pores and leave your skin feeling baby soft.

Vitamins

All vitamins are great for looking good, especially if you’re consuming them in fresh food, where they will be integrated more fully into your body. That said, if you want to take a supplement specifically to boost your skin’s health, try anything high in vitamin A or zinc.

Exercise

As with generally looking good and in shape, we all know that those who are truly fit often have a glow that shows it in their cheeks. This is because when you exercise you release toxins in the skin, increase blood flow, and reduce stress levels. It feels good, too!

Go for a facial

It’s so nice to treat ourselves every once in a while, and going to a spa, finding someone who really knows what they are doing, and purging the skin of impurities is one very pleasurable way to do it. Just make sure you find an esthetician that works for you.

Keep it clean

As well as cleaning your face twice, you can also avoid any excess dirt being soaked up by your pores. Keep your hair back and out of your face, don’t keep touching the same parts of your face, and change your pillowcases regularly.

Eat foods with anti-oxidants

Natural anti-oxidants, such as blueberries, raspberries, spinach, seeds, purple grapes, dark chocolate (70% cocoa or higher) and green tea will leave you with a feeling of a clearer and fresher dermal hygiene. They will help fight disease and inflammation and, as a pleasant side effect, reduce wrinkles.

Eat a nutrient rich diet

When you think about the different colour fruit and vegetables you have eaten each day, try and work out what is missing and fill in the gaps. Having these nutrient-rich foods in your diet will add taste to your meals, as well as neutralizing any free-radicals in your system.

Release stress to improve your skin

In whatever way works for you, relax! Take some time out for yourself, or try meditating, doing yoga, going for a morning run, or any other fun activity that you enjoy that releases tensions and gets those good endorphins running through your body.
